Get Safe strolls into Corona

Stroller Strides instructor Dina Conover connects on a strong kick to Get Safe executive director Stuart Haskin during stroller safety training.Get Safe and Stroller Strides of Corona teamed up this morning for an extended workout and lesson in stroller safety at The Shops at Dos Lagos in Corona. In addition to Stroller Strides’ regular Wednesday morning fitness class, our Get Safe team led the ladies in a 30-minute training exercise focusing on embracing motherhood through safety, awareness and empowerment.

“Today was a great event,” said Get Safe executive director Stuart Haskin. “We were able to teach the moms about awareness and about safety, with a little self-defense component. It was a fun time all-around.”

Once they finished their regular workout, the moms and their strollered children wheeled over for a quick lesson in S.A.F.E. awareness from Stuart and Get Safe trainer Dave Monderine. After training, each mom was ready to take on our obstacle course, implementing their new arsenal of stroller safety maneuvers while maneuvering their kids away from danger.

Stroller Strides mom Maddy Graham finished the course first with a blistering time of 14 seconds—while toting her two-year-old and six-month-old children! Maddy says she now feels better equipped to protect herself and her children.

“We [mothers] are an easy target, especially me with two babies,” she said. “I trust people too much, and I’m happy to know a couple techniques to help me out in a situation if I needed it.”

The women also received a first look at Get Safe’s new lifestyle-brand, Embrace. Lead designer Kathleen Sampson was on-site to share her artwork and apparel, spreading the message that motherhood is empowering.
