Founder & Executive Director
From survivors of violence and sexual assaults to children and adults with developmental disabilities, Stuart Haskin uses his trademark humor combined with innovative teaching, counseling and martial arts techniques to make it possible for his students to live safer, violence-free lives.
“I love helping people smile again and enjoy all that life has to offer them, without fear,” Haskin said.
For many, life is fraught with fear; fear at home, at work, at school, on vacation, even in day-to-day routine activities. Haskin, an expert on personal safety, has been helping people around the world build stronger, safer lives for more than 30 years so they may live life on their terms. Using his simple and powerful S-A-F-E system (Scan – Assess – Forecast – Execute), Haskin helps his students find and use their own inner strength and awareness to take back control of their lives. And now, his book, “The Gift of Freedom: A Stronger, Safer You” makes his innovative and engaging “freedom from fear” curriculum available to those at risk everywhere.
Haskin works closely with at-risk populations (law enforcement officers, military personnel, teachers, children, persons with disabilities) as well as men and women from all walks of life, to help them enjoy a relaxed, enjoyable life free from fear. More than simply talking at his students, Haskin interacts with people on the emotional, cognitive and physical levels to create an empowering, life-changing shift in personal awareness and safety.
Haskin has also developed several unique awareness programs, including the innovative GS-CAT (GET SAFE Consumer Advocacy Training) program that has helped thousands of persons with disabilities and their caregivers to navigate day-to-day life and the complex legal system, as well as the Breaking Barriers program that empowers survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence to take back control of their lives.
Haskin, an Orange County Sergeant Reserve Deputy Sheriff and frequent guest speaker, has earned black belts in Kung Fu, Judo, Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido. His law enforcement credentials include training from the FBI, The California Department of Justice Diplomatic Security Service and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Haskin is also a State Certified Sexual Assault Victim and Domestic Violence Counselor.
Haskin founded GET SAFE in 1993, and year-after-year he strives to create a nurturing educational environment where everyone can learn the skills needed to protect themselves and lead full, productive and violence-free lives.
Haskin is a respected community leader and lives in Huntington Beach, California with his wife Ellen, two-year-old daughter Noelle, and newborn son Dylan. Haskin enjoys surfing, but says he wishes he had more time to devote to “working out the kinks” of his surfing techniques.
