Jaime, 17-year-old rape survivor
"Project GET SAFE self-defense classes, probably second only to my faith in God, have helped me to deal with the fear and helplessness of rape. Thanks to Project GET SAFE, I am now living a functional life and I have learned that while I will never change other people, I can change how they affect me.”
“Project GET SAFE is a great resource for anyone that is concerned for their personal safety. It is a special benefit to women, who run a greater risk of being sexually assaulted."
Jimmy, 10-year-old "Safety Kid"
“I was playing in my neighborhood and one day a friendly man who lived on the same block invited me into his house to play video games. A lot of my friends would take this man up on his offer, but something inside me told me, “No.” I remembered my GET SAFE class and that I should only play with the people my parents said are OK and to trust the feeling in my stomach.”
Jimmy remembered to trust his instincts. Jimmy never went in that house and the seemingly nice neighbor was arrested two weeks later on child molestation charges."
Brea Homicide Detective
“Being in the profession that I am in, it is great to see people in a personal safety course learning awareness and self-defense before I have to meet them as victims in the street. Take notes. Everything in the GET SAFE program is right on. Thank you for spreading the word.”
Chief of Staff, Fountain Valley Regional Hospital
“Please consider this my personal thanks to you and your staff for the two hour course you provided to our physicians on self-defense and awareness. Your instruction and lecture were superb and generated much thought and discussion among the physicians. I have spoken to many of them since the program and their overwhelming comments of support and enthusiasm are testament of your ability to teach a typically difficult group of adult learners.”
Marlena, mother of three
“I never thought I would need to defend myself, not against him. I never thought I would have to protect my children, not from him. I never thought I would forget how to smile, not because of him. He loved me, he married me, he gave me my 3 beautiful children…he beat me, he hit them, he broke us. Then I walked into a class with men and women who said they were going to help to make it better, I never believed it, but they were right. GET SAFE’s Breaking Barriers made me smile, they made my kids laugh. They made us stronger, they made us safer. GET SAFE, I can’t thank you enough, we will never forget the past, but now we know we have the strength to survive it.”
Kim, mother of two
"GET SAFE literally saved my life. I had been in a bad relationship and decided that I needed to make a change for the sake of my children. I attended a GET SAFE class, it was the most fun I, or my children, had in quite a while. It was amazing that in such a short time, I gained the skills necessary to keep me and my children safe when my ex-husband came at us with a knife. I have never felt so strong as I did then, and I know that we are all here today because of GET SAFE. Our lives are forever changed, for the better, because of you. Thank you."
Trisha, High School Student
“I never thought of safety as a gift, but I guess it is. GET SAFE came to my school; they made us laugh, and they made me think. They did these role plays where people made fun of each other while others stood by and did nothing, and then I realized, that was me. I stood by while my friend was being teased until she started crying, and I did nothing. That day, I learned that I could be the one to make it better, I can do something, and I did. The next time it happened, I helped my friend, we told our teacher and I did give her a gift…I helped make us all a little safer, and I became that much stronger. Thank you GET SAFE.”
Shawna, mother of two
"GET SAFE saved my life. Without your program, I never would have known what to do to keep me and my children safe when my ex-husband threatened our lives. You taught me how to be strong and trust in myself, when no one else could. My life and the lives of my children have been forever changed. Thank you."
She was abducted from the only home she ever knew. She was subjected to unimaginable violence, treated as a slave, forced to provide sexual acts to strangers. She is only 12-years-old. Elina, a survivor of human sex trafficking came to GET SAFE as a fragile, broken child. She couldn't make eye-contact with our trainers, let alone find the strength to keep herself safe. After a series of personally designed classes with GET SAFE, we saw an empowered, assertive young woman, who has regained a positive and hopeful outlook on life. Get Safe has been honored to be a part of her recovery. Elina is now thriving at school and at home, knowing, although her past is a part of her, it does not dictate who she is.
