GET SAFE Self-Defense teaches kids, teens, and adults of all skill levels and abilities to function during the stress and shock of a sudden or violent encounter. By utilizing martial art techniques from Jiujitsu and Muay Thai, as well as our instructors' blended training in Krav Maga and Kickboxing, our classes equip individuals for the unknown by empowering them to walk in confidence! 


We believe that everyone has the right to feel safe. However, the reality that we have to prepare ourselves for is that we have no idea when, where, or with whom we will need to defend ourselves. When you have confidence in yourself and your ability you can walk anywhere throughout your life and be at peace, because no matter what happens you know that you will be able to defend yourself and you will be able to get home safely. That is what Get Safe Self-Defense is all about. Everything we do is based on prevention, crisis response, and recovery. We help people to recognize yellow and red flag behaviors before they get involved. We help people to recover after they respond to a crisis. We want people to know they can plug in to resources to be whole again. Jiujitsu is a martial art and combat sport system that focuses on grappling with particular emphasis on ground fighting. Brazilian jiu-jitsu was developed from Kodokan judo ground fighting (newaza) fundamentals that were taught by a number of Japanese individuals including Takeo YanoMitsuyo MaedaSoshihiro Satake, and Isao Okano. Brazilian jiu-jitsu eventually came to be its own defined combat sport through the innovations, practices, and adaptation of judo.

GET SAFE's Jiujistsu is founded on the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger, heavier opponent by using technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground, and then applying joint locks and chokeholds to defeat the opponent. Our training can be used for sport grappling tournaments and in self-defense situations.[5] Sparring (commonly referred to as "rolling" within the Jiujitsu community) and live drilling play a major role in training and the practitioner's development. This style is considered a martial art, a sport, a method for promoting physical fitness and building character, and a way of life.


​Muay Thai, also known as Thai Boxing, is the national sport and cultural martial art of Thailand. It was developed several hundreds of years ago as a form of close-combat that utilizes the entire body as a weapon.

The “art of eight limbs” works to utilize the entire body as a weapon. A wide variety of punches, elbow strikes, knee strikes, kicks, and foot thrusts are used. (Foot thrusts are quick jabs with the foot used to control distance or knock an opponent off balance.) Clinches and defense moves such as blocking and evasion are also used.

While each fighter develops his or her own style within Muay Thai, it’s common for fighters to lean more heavily on kicking and knee strikes, using fists and elbows less frequently or as part of multi-strike combinations. This may be in part because Muay Thai kicks are executed with a straight leg, using the lower part of the shin as the point of contact. When executed correctly and at full strength, the resulting impact is comparable to being hit with a baseball bat.

Self-defense is the training and techniques necessary to defend yourself when targeted by crime or violence. There will always be thieves who want to take what isn’t theirs, and predators who want to hurt or humiliate others. When you train in self-defense, you gain the tools to stay safe from danger.

The ability to defend yourself and your loved ones is the most important aspect of self-defense training and, really, it’s primary purpose. By training, you prepare your mind and body to respond to threats against your safety or your life. The truth in today’s society is that help is not always available in time to make a difference. When under the pressure of a stressful situation, especially an attack or survival situation, people automatically revert to what they’ve practiced. Stress makes it difficult to adapt to circumstances we haven’t encountered or prepared for.

That’s why self-defense is important. It lets you take charge and defuse, de-escalate, or defend yourself and those around you. By training and preparing for the worst-case scenario, you better your odds of surviving if such a situation occurs.

Emphasis is placed on education about bullying behavior and prevention tactics, as well as stranger abduction in our Kids program. Bullies often target those who are perceived as "different." By its very definition, bullying is a form of intimidation, behavior designed to threathen, frighten, or exert power and control over another person.

By teaching students to use their Mind, Voice, and Body to defend themselves, we empower them to fight back in an abduction situation and give them the confidence to become great leaders!

Mind: Make safe choices, avoid dangerous situations, & know to fight back.
Voice: A strong voice calls attention & empowers your child to fight back.

Body: Students are trained in self-defense & escape techniques to use when unable to run.

GET SAFE Self-Defense began a partnership with Kings MMA in November of 2019, advancing the array of available martial art disciplines and instructors to further provide a variety of training classes.

Kings MMA is a mixed martial arts (MMA) gym located in Huntington Beach, California, headed by coach Rafael Cordeiro. Coach Cordeiro and Kings MMA have been nominees for the 2014 World MMA Awards "Best coach of the year" and "Best gym of the year," respectively. Cordeiro had won the 2012 and 2016 coach of the year awards. Kings MMA is one of the top professional MMA training camps.

Annabelle's Experience

So, my first class…. I was really scared, intimidated, wondering is this for me? Will I be able to do it? Is it going to be all guys? But, when I got there, I saw that it was all different people. Younger, older, women, men, big, and strong, smaller and weaker.  So, I thought, “Ok, I think I can do this.” and as time went by, my nervousness went away, and I started feeling right at home. I made friends and its almost like a little family now. I feel right at home. Get Safe is my second home. I’m here all the time, either for my training or for my kids training, and its been awesome.
