About the Role

Join GET SAFE as an Advocacy and Training Specialist (ATS) to make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Our ATS team assists individuals who exhibit risk‐factors that often result in, or have already resulted in:

Crime perpetration
Legal offenses
Severe physical and psychological consequences

For clients court‐ordered to undergo competency training, ATS staff employs GET SAFE’s Functional Legal Competency Training (FLC) curriculum.
This is a hybrid role of remote and in-person work. There may be local travel required throughout nearby cities for in-person interactions with clients.
Primary Responsibilities:
FLC staff trains and evaluates functional competence within the specific parameters of understanding the unique set of circumstances, nomenclature, and processes individuals may encounter in the legal system. A carefully assigned FLC staff member advocates for and increases a client’s awareness of his or her:

Consequences of legal involvement

Position Specifications:

Flexibility: Design your own schedule based off you and your client's mutual availability (typically Monday Friday)
Variable Hours: Weekly hours vary based on client meetings frequency.
Part-Time with Potential: Begin as a part-time staff member with the opportunity to transition to full-time (full-time staff eligible for medical, dental, and other benefits).
In-Person Services: Willingness to drive throughout surrounding cities throughout Riverside County to provide in-person services in the home and/or facilities serving this population if necessary. However, most services can be conducted remotely.

Requirements

  • Strong alignment with GET SAFE's mission and commitment to driving positive change.

  • Understanding of the legal system is a plus

  • Display a positive attitude, a proactive approach to learning, patience, flexibility, professionalism, and teamwork.

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or 1-2 years equivalent work experience, preferably in social work, psychology, criminal justice, human services, etc.

  • Experience working with individuals diagnosed with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities.

  • Proficiency in delivering training and instructions.

  • Familiarity with client documentation and billing processes.

  • Strong English language skills; Spanish proficiency preferred; knowledge of other languages is advantageous.

  • Comfortable with computer tools and software.

  • Fully vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19.

  • Possession of a valid CA driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for work.
